I could have titled this post “let there be peace” as this is a climbing Peace rose.
So long ago, a dear old friend (who started out as my landlady) bought me a book on the whole “peace rose” story. Roses sent abroad from France during WW2 for safekeeping. Rose named PEACE by Field Marshal Alan Brooke (big hand in liberation of France). You can read about it properly here if you like… it’s a good story. And it’s a very good rose.
This is the first rose of the year this year in my garden. It gave me a surprise as it was not even close to being open yesterday. I think of my lovely friend every time I see it.
Happy gardening everyone!
