Tawp… no, taupe (tope)

Taupe coloured mole (animal)

Who thinks up these names? Okay, now we know how to say it (tope), what exactly is it? Hint, no, it’s not a small cuddly mole creature (right colour though).

Taupe is a dark to mid brownish gray. A lot of houses get painted this colour these days. You might call it mushroom. It can, unhelpfully, be tinged with other hues such as purple, yellow, or green.

I’ve seen examples of taupe that look beige to me.  This should of course be banned and burned as all things beige must be (especially beige cardigans). Maybe it’s just an example of people not really knowing what the colour IS and misnaming their horrible beige paint product to make it sound trendy.

I have seen references to purple taupe, rose taupe, mauve taupe… maybe it just means “muddy”, adding a brownish grey tinge to whatever colour it is attached to.

Taupe is a bit of a free spirit in the colour world, adhering to no particular standards of what it should be. No helpful, I know, but go taupe! Taupe be free!

About gillianloves

I decided there was not enough laughing in my life so I set to and started to design greeting cards in addition to my other design work. I'm happy to make people smile and to show that giving something really good takes as little effort as sending something pretty ordinary. I fully believe that if you can laugh about it someday you may as well laugh about it today. And also that we are just about as happy as we try to be. But you should know, Pollyanna I'm not. Even I might want to slap her after a day or so.
