Fun Friday kitschy kawaii to you all!

Kawaii.  Now don’t worry, I never knew what it was either.  Kawaii (pronounced the same as Hawaii but with a K) is the Japanese word for cute.

Porcelain swanAround the time of my birthday (when I can justify wasting money on myself) I went a little nuts on 1950s porcelain figurines that are most definitely kawaii. I know it can all be so cute you just want to vomit… but it would be pretty pink sparkly strawberry flavoured vomit for sure.

I can’t say I love them all… and maybe some are more kitsch than kawaii (but, um, I kinda like kitsch too). Take this swan for example. It is a way more than a little over the top for me, but I can have some fun with it…

Look Mama design, kewpi baby riding a kitsch porcelain swanOh look, it’s a sparkly trinity >  kitsch, kawaii and kewpi. Jackpot.

Fun Friday kitschy kawaii to you all.  : )

About gillianloves

I decided there was not enough laughing in my life so I set to and started to design greeting cards in addition to my other design work. I'm happy to make people smile and to show that sending something really good takes as little effort as sending something pretty ordinary. I fully believe that if you can laugh about it someday you may as well laugh about it today. And also that we are just about as happy as we try to be. But you should know, Pollyanna I'm not. Even I might want to slap her after a day or so.
